Sacha Inchi is the latest super food. It is supposed to have 45% omega-3 fatty acids and 35% omega-6 fatty acids, making its omega 3 to 6 ratio comparable to that of flaxseed. That’s good news.
I have also compared its fiber and protein information below to the regular nuts that we snack on – almond and peanuts.
Name | Fiber/oz | Protein/oz | Online Cost (nuts.com) |
Sacha Inchi | 5 | 8 | 19.99/lb |
Almonds | 3.5 | 6 | 9.99/lb |
Peanuts | 2.4 | 7 | 3.99/lb |
The table above shows that, yes, Sacha Inchi has a superior fiber and protein characteristics compared to almonds and peanuts.
I got my packet from Trader Joes’s at a more reasonable price than the online cost, but it is still an expensive seed.
It tastes fine, nothing remarkable or distasteful. I can describe it as a cross between a fibrous almond + roasted soy bean kind of taste.
Bottom line – For vegetarians and vegans who have limited omega-3 options in chia seeds, flax seeds and walnuts, this is a good addition.
If you are very watchful of your fat/protein intake, this will also fit your requirements. But, if you are a person, whose taste buds rule supreme, buy a smaller packet before you commit to a larger one.
