These 2 ingredient Watermelon Seed and Date bites are sugar free, vegan and protein rich. These are perfect as an after school snack or post workout nibble.

This is a very simple, straightforward recipe!! 4 steps, that’s all:
- Roast the seeds
- Grind them finely
- Blend with dates
- Shape them
Sounds familiar? It is very similar to the sesame date ball recipe. There is just one difference, you will notice that in Step 2.
Step 1 – Roast the seeds, first, of course, to get out the toasty, nutty flavor.

Step 2 – >> Then, grind the seeds in a coffee grinder – Why, you ask? You see, watermelon seeds are a tad more fiber-y than sesame seeds.
So, while a coarse grind of sesame should suffice for the sesame ball, a more fine grind is preferred for the watermelon seed ball.

Step 3 – Blend with dates…

Step 4 – Shape and serve…

These 2 ingredient Watermelon Seed and Date bites are sugar free, vegan and protein rich. These are perfect as an after school snack or post workout nibble.
- 1 cup Watermelon Seeds
- 20-22 Dates (I used Deglet Noor)
-
Roast the seeds for 3-5 minutes on medium heat until they start to splutter and pop. Cool on plate.
-
Finely ground the watermelon seeds in a coffee grinder. I powdered 1/3 portion at a time to avoid overcrowding.
-
In a food processor, add the powdered seeds. Using the feed tube, add the dates one by one until they come together in a dough like consistency.
-
Pour it out into a container. Shape them into balls and serve!!
These bites proved to be a great after-school snack for my kids this past week. Unlike sesame (which has a strong sense of self 🙂 – I AM SESAME thumps chest!!), watermelon seeds are very neutral in flavor. These bites are sweet and bland…which, I admit, maybe not that exciting for adults, but totally the type that kids love.

However, I can totally predict that many of you will be successful trying out different flavors – like chocolate, elaichi, vanilla etc on the same base.
You all know already, that I love, love the subtle sweetness of dates. For e.g – my wheat ladoos with date recipe is very popular and so is my rava ladoo, also sweetened with dates!! They are a stark contrast to the – in your face – sweetness of white sugar. The dates also have a tendency to fill you up, rather than make you hungry soon, unlike white sugar.
So, that’s it from me today….I hope you give these Watermelon seed + Date bites a try!! Please post your comments below…I look forward to them…
